Temporary exhibition: One day the planes came

B0056334.jpg

Do not miss out this intriguing and gripping exhibition.

The story of an aircraft raised from the seabed, and of aerial warfare and its victims. In the center is a newly restored aircraft from WWII with a very special history.

On March 24, 1943, a German fighter jet crashed into the sea off Rørvik, with a Norwegian family as spectators. Despite being the enemy, the mother chose to calm down and rescue the 20-year-old pilot Günther Serapim who was about to drown.

Join us for this year's temporary exhibition, which gives you an insight into air battles during World War II and how it affected civilian life.

mess.jpg
MH_026395-kopi.png

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a newly restored Messerschmitt Bf 109, which was the Germans' most used fighter aircraft during the war, and which was raised from the sea off Rørvik. Here you can see a unique story of a rescue operation that led to a lifelong friendship. In addition, you get the exciting story of the raising of the plane in 2010, and how it went from being a corroded shell, to a (almost) functioning fighter plane as presented in the exhibition.

The exhibition focuses on the people who were victims during the war, and takes a look at the destruction caused by war and airstrikes. This is a strong exhibition that encourages reflection and reflection. Not suitable for young children due to strong images and impressions.

"Yellow 3" will later be exhibited permanently in the museum's military exhibition.

World War II - Its victims and aircrafts (Exhibition)

mess.jpg

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is an iconic aircraft from the second world war. After 10 years of restoration and work, the museum can finally offer an exciting look in to the war and its effects on human lives.

IMG_2718.JPG

The Messerschmitt Yellow 3 went down in the ocean outside Risør after a dramatic landing during the war. After 67 years on the bottom of the sea, the aircraft was raised and taken to the museum for restoration. Ten years and over 30.000 hours of work after, the final result is presented, marking the 75th jubileum of the end of the WW2 and it is dedicated to all who lost their lives in aerial combat.

The pride of the German Luftwaffe

This particular “Yellow 3” had only been used for a few months when the accident happened. The aircraft was Nazi-Germanys most important aircraft both measured in quantity and operational importance. It fought with the allied aircrafts for aerial domination throughout the war, and it guarded the bombers so they could get through with their cargo.

Welcome to an exhibition who explores stories about the war and its impact, but also the personal stories of the pilot and the others who were involved.
