Project Cold War museum

Bodø was a hotspot during the Cold War and held a crucial NATO base due to the closeness to the Sovjet Union. Due to the amount of history the city holds, The Norwegian Aviation Museum is working towards creating a new museum.

Due to this initiative and the museums expertise on the area, the task of creating a national hub for cold war dissemination, has befallen to The Norwegian Aviation Museum by the ministry of culture.

In 2017, the funds were granted to create a preliminary project, showing the possibility of a new Cold War museum in the historic nuclear-proof facility, Hangar 96. The project is nearly coming to an end, and will culminate in an application to the Department of Culture in early March.

If the application releases the funds needed, the main project will aim to complete the museum towards 2024.
