Stories from Cold War Hotspots
"Stories from Cold War Hotspots" is the Norwegian Aviation Museum's latest research and exhibition project, contributing to Bodø as the European Capital of Culture in 2024.
In collaboration with Bodø2024 and several museums in Estonia, Denmark, Scotland, and Germany, the museum has gathered personal stories and reflections from people living in European cities of significant importance during the Cold War, also known as "hotspots".
2024 promises to be an exciting year for Bodø and the Norwegian Aviation Museum. In June 2024, visitors can explore our new exhibition on the Cold War at the museum. In close collaboration with Kvorning Design, we aim to create a Cold War exhibition that stands out from what has been seen before. Built around the project's interviews, the exhibition will focus on individual reflections and stories about the Cold War. By highlighting individuals, we aim to promote the individual pieces that form our European collective memory of perhaps the most crucial period in the 20th century.
During the same period, the museum also intends to emphasize Bodø's significance as an object from the Cold War through satellite exhibitions scattered around the city. These exhibitions will introduce the population to both familiar and perhaps unfamiliar aspects of the Cold War from various places in Europe.
Academic conference in June
The Norwegian Aviation Museum is also the main organizer of an academic conference addressing questions about collective memory and identity resulting from the Cold War. The conference will take place at the museum from June 4-6, 2024, and is open to anyone interested in the Cold War and wanting to learn more.
